On February 18, 2021, Dr. Steven Pollack who doubles as a science fellow at Carbon, Inc. and a luthier for Yellow Rose Lutherie of Redwood City gave a presentation for the Silicon Valley Section titled “Polymer Chemistry and Lutherie: The Materials of Fretted Instruments.” In this talk he discussed polymers in the guitar that can influence the quality of the instrument’s sound, both positively and negatively. Damping or enhancing specific frequencies via resonance gives the acoustic guitar its “voice.”
