Bay Area Science Festival
The Bay Area Science Festival is Northern California’s largest education event, bringing together STEM role models, families, kids, and adults to experience the wonder of science. Occurring over a five-day period, it features events from sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Participating organizations include universities, museums, cultural institutions, libraries, corporations, after-school groups, research labs, government agencies, and non-profit organizations like the ACS Silicon Valley Section. Activities include hands-on science experiments, STEM story times, live Q&A sessions, interviews with scientists, demonstrations, behind-the-scenes tours and more. Silicon Valley ACS participates in an all-day event at Oracle Park in San Francisco that thousands of people attend. A perennial favorite activity is making slime. A hearty band of ACS volunteers accompany attendees in making slime all day long, and explaining the science behind the slime! Many eager Californians await the return of the Discovery Day during the Bay Area Science Festival after the pandemic break.
Chemists Celebrate Earth Week
For years, chemists have been promoting a better world through recyclable plastics, cleaner-burning fuels, phosphate-free detergents, environmental monitoring, and green chemistry initiatives. To promote the positive role that chemistry plays in the world, ACS established the Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) public awareness campaign. During CCEW, ACS members and chemistry enthusiasts celebrate by coordinating events and communicating the importance of chemistry.
Join us for Chemists Celebrate Earth Week. Each year brings a new theme and updated presentation materials.
National Chemistry Week
National Chemistry Week (NCW) is a public awareness campaign that promotes the value of chemistry in everyday life. ACS members and chemistry enthusiasts celebrate NCW by coordinating events and communicating the importance of chemistry.
